What is PRS?

Ohio Medicaid’s PRS (Pregnancy Related Services) program was developed to improve and maintain the health of pregnant women, increase her changes for a healthier baby and promote positive birth outcomes.

Key elements of this program include:
  • This is a FREE service to all Medicaid eligible pregnant women
  • Also known as the Healthy Start program for pregnant women

Do I qualify for PRS?

You may be eligible for Pregnancy Related Services (PRS) from the date you suspect you are pregnant and report it to your case worker up to 60 days after the end of your pregnancy. You may also have eligibility for this program for the three (3) months prior to your date of application. This is also known as retroactive eligibility.

What types of Services does PRS offer?

PRS offers:

  • individual pregnancy counseling and education
  • group education
  • case management
  • nutrition information
  • transportation to appointments

Care that is provided before the baby is born is known as Antepartum care and it includes education and counseling, routine services and physical exams which measures weight blood pressure and fetal heart tones. Antepartum care also includes Care Coordination which is provided to help in the hospital selection process for the delivery of your baby, referrals for other services, and arrangements for medical care or phone consultation in case of an emergency.

How do I apply for PRS?

  • In Person
    An application for eligibility can be completed at any Cuyahoga County Employment & Family Services Office. Click here for all of the NFSC locations.
  • Online
    You may also obtain an application online at http://jfs.ohio.gov/OHP/.   Submit this application at any NFSC for processing.
  • By Telephone
    You may apply by calling the Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 1-800-324-8680 (TDD 1-800-292-3572).
